[A bad day is losing your keys or missing a bus. A bad day is burning dinner or getting fired. What Charlie had was probably the worst day in all of City History. It was right up there on her list of Really Shitty Days, hovering just beneath seeing her father die as the worst day. Really, they were tied.
It was the last day of her honeymoon with Merlin and she woke up to find just his ring on the bed. The rest of him and his stuff? Gone.
She went to the Hall of the Missing after being unable to reach him and sure enough, there was her husbands picture.
And then it got worse. She'd run into Karl and upon feeling threatened, tried to set him on fire. When nothing happened, Charlie ran.
She wasn't sure what happened next, just that something hit her and sent her into a wall hard enough to knock her out and when she came to, she was in the City hospital with several dozen stitches in her back to close up a message Karl left for Saya (come home, saya), a broken wrist and a concussion. And for once in her life, Charlie didn't want to leave the hospital. She wanted to stay where she was.
She was told someone found her and that someone was waiting to see her so Charlie tried to look somewhat okay. The best she could do was curl into a ball on her side, undamaged arm wrapped protectively around her own waist as she watched the door.]
[Uhura had stayed at the hospital all night, waiting to see the young woman she found. The doctor had almost told her to go home, but after one look at her shaking hands, had a nurse get her a blanket and a coffee instead.
Her training should have prepared her for this. Her training should have prepared her for this. She is a Starfleet officer who has seen combat action. She's seen mangled bodies bodies before.
But tonight she'd discovered there's a world of difference between someone injured by an exploding panel and someone beaten and left for dead on a city street. She hadn't been prepared for that.
It's a relief when she's finally told she can see the woman, and Uhura peeks around the doorframe, almost shyly.]
[Charlie watches the woman carefully, not recognizing her straight off. When it does register that she knows the woman, she almost smiles but holds it back. She's not in the mood to actually show too much emotion and will blame being tired and sore if anyone asks.
When she speaks, her voice is strained. Scratchy. Sounds unused or overused, just bad in general.]
[Wherever you are today, Uhura, be it the coffee shop or out to lunch or at the grocery store, but a gentleman approaches you. A gentleman with a recorder. And he begins a perhaps familiar melody.]
[Chekov has decided to send Uhura a message before she starts looking for him... under the assumption, of course, that she'll be less annoyed if she finds out that he's in the hospital from him.]
Nyota? I'm in the hospital, currently, but I will be home later today.
This is Kirk. I'm unable to make contact with Spock, Scotty and Sulu, they were all here yesterday. I want everybody looking for them. [ A sigh. ] If anyone hears from Gaila, Dax, Tom Paris or Christopher Pike, I want to know about that too. Anyone from Starfleet is to check in with me immediately.
I think they were removed from the City, but I want to be sure. Additionally, we have Captain Janeway newly arrived. Chekov, I want you to fill her in on whatever you can, I already gave her your version of what's going on but you can explain it better in person.
There's a man on the network introducing himself as John Harrison. That's a false name. His name is Khan Noonien Singh, a genetically-engineered Human Augment of the late-20th century Eugenics Wars. He's an enemy of Starfleet and one hell of a dangerous guy. I'm only the doctor, not the captain, but I'm advising you guys against all contact.
When Jim gets better, he'll answer your questions. At the moment, please keep your distance. I don't want any of you guys getting into trouble.
[Crackle, crackle. The speaker is utterly unamused, but the perceptive can detect a tiny note of worry in his voice. What's audible through the static, anyway.]
[She's still ill, too feverish to get out of bed and hardly able to speak, but she's recovered enough of herself to find the incessant beeping of her device REALLY. ANNOYING. And she resents the effort it takes to reach over to the nightstand and pick it up.
When she hears the message, all of that is gone.]
Spock?
[Her voice is hoarse and barely understandable. She coughs, trying to clear it, and accidentally pushes a button. Shit, did she just delete his message? (Did his message really happen? Is this all just a dream? She's never had a fever dream before...maybe this is what they're like.)]
[ooc: IDK if you want to play things out here or in an intro post or log or something. :|a Uhura and Jimmy are being sick bbies in Kirk & McCoy's apartment right now. Perfect for group shenanigans.)
[He wastes no time and does not even bother disguising the worry in his voice. She sounds sick, like Jim did. This is unacceptable. He has half a mind to shout at McCoy (actually shout), even if he knows the man must be doing everything he can.]

Kirk out.

[Her voice is clipped. Not your fault, Jim -- it's just hard to have her boyfriend and her dead roommate and then to lose them both again.]
